The Yab Yum position is suitable for:
- Practising the Tantra Heart Embracement
- Meditating together
- Strengthening the bond between each other
- Charging each others “batteries” (energy fields)
- A present way for physical intercourse
- Tantric breath and energy exercises
- Activating the magnetic stream of love
The Yab Yum position is a tantric position to bring the chakras (energy centres) in the front of the body together. In its perfect form the man sits in the lotus position and the woman on top of him, embracing him with her legs. Heart touches heart and the complete front of the body comes together. For most westeners, particularly those without any experience in yoga, this sitting position is not comfortable. There are, therefore, these variations of the Yab Yum position:
Yab Yum Position 1:
The man sits in lotus position or with bent legs on the ground or on a meditation cushion. The woman sits on a (perhaps somewhat higher) cushion and wraps her legs around him.
Yab Yum Position 2:
Man and woman sit on one mat and interlock their legs like scissors.
In any case, attention needs to be paid to a straight back, so the lumbar column does not suffer. Only stay in the Yab Yum position as long as it feels good and is possible without any pain.
